Benzoic acid is an alkyl benzoate preservative that occurs in nature in cherry bark, raspberries, tea, anise, and cassia bark. Benefits of benzoic acid in skincare include anti-aging, soothing, and moisturizing properties. In addition, a major derivative of benzoic acid, known as phenolic veratric acid, contains high concentrations of antioxidants to help neutralize free-radicals present in the environment.
